Internet Radio Stations

internet radio stations are, in my opinion, one of the most exciting developments in high tech media in years. Along with the availability of inexpensive sound recording software and the fact that almost everyone now has access to a computer, internet radio stations mean that almost anyone can make webcasts or podcasts of their own. Of course, it is not just private individuals who are making use of internet radio stations. In reality, the vast majority of internet radio stations are owned by big communications firms as internet versions of their own radio stations. But that is just the beauty of the internet - it levels the playing field. Whether you want to listen to top 40 from Las Angeles, or some kid spinning punk rock in Birmingham, Alabama, chances are that you can find it through an internet radio station.

One of my favorite thing about internet radio stations is that they allow you to listen to your favorite radio even if you move out of the city where it is located. I used to love WCBN in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the local college station, when I went to school there. When I moved away, I had to leave many things behind, but not the radio. WCBN has a live, streaming, internet radio station on the web, so you can listen to it exactly the same as if you lived there. This is a great thing in my opinion, because, thanks to internet radio stations, I can hear all of my favorite programs from anywhere in the whole entire country. That simply can not be beat.

Another way to look for internet radio stations is by music type. Any city of a reasonable size is likely to have a few different radio stations, but often the lineup is depressingly uniform across the whole lot of them. This is not the case if you use internet radio stations. You can listen to bluegrass, country, polka, old school soul - you name it and there will probably be an internet radio station dedicated to playing it. The fact is that there are people out there all over the world who want nothing better than to share their music with you and will be simply overjoyed if you were to listen to their internet radio stations. And, of course, it is almost always free - no one can charge for internet radio stations, because if they try, people will just listen to something else.
